About Psi-Star

A public-benefit organization for an important technical transition.

Psi-Star brings research, education, and collaboration together around a simple idea: society should be able to benefit from quantum technology without being left unprepared for its risks.

Our mission

Advance quantum security and expand access to quantum skills.

Psi-Star is organized for charitable, scientific, and educational purposes.

We support fundamental and applied research in quantum cryptography and related information sciences. At the same time, we work to expand the skilled workforce through education, training, and pathways into the field.

How we intend to serve

Four principles guide the work.

Public benefit first

Research and resources should address shared needs and produce value beyond any single organization.

Scientific integrity

Claims should be supported by evidence, limitations should be clear, and results should withstand careful review.

Access and inclusion

The future workforce will be stronger when more communities can learn, participate, and lead.

Responsible collaboration

Universities, public agencies, nonprofits, and companies can accomplish more through transparent, mission-aligned work.

Practical relevance

Technical work should connect to the systems, decisions, and people it is ultimately meant to help.

Clear communication

People deserve understandable explanations of technologies that may affect their security and future.

A few useful definitions

Quantum terms without the jargon.

Quantum computing

A different approach to computing that uses quantum physics. It may solve certain problems much faster than ordinary computers, but it is not faster at everything.

Cryptography

The tools and methods used to protect information, prove identity, and keep digital communication private and trustworthy.

Post-quantum security

Protection designed to resist both today's computers and future quantum computers, while still working on familiar digital systems.

Quantum cryptography

Security methods that use properties of quantum physics, including techniques for exchanging encryption keys.
